So you want to be a fighter? There's a lot more to it than you probably know. In order to fight as a professional kick-boxer in Ontario, Canada you must obtain a license from the Ontario Athletic Commission. This delegation regulates both boxing and kick-boxing in Ontario. A license is required not only by the fighters, but by the promoters, managers and seconds as well! To obtain this license you must first have an amateur boxing or kick-boxing license in order to become a professional. Now this is no easy task since there is no amateur kick-boxing currently allowed in Ontario! So you must go out of province to gain your experience! A fighter must also undergo the nessesary medicals in order to be sanctioned; EEG, EKG, HIV, full eye exam, and Cat Scan every two years. Only if you pass all the above can you receive a license. If when fighting you are knocked out, all tests must immediately be redone. So lets say all goes well and you get your license, now what? You have to go out and find a promoter, someone to allow you to fight on his/her card. You can go about this search by yourself, or you can get a manager to assist you.
