In order to fight as a professional kick-boxer in Ontario, Canada you must obtain a
license from the Ontario Athletic Commission. This delegation regulates both
professional boxing and professional kick-boxing in Ontario.
A license is required not only by the fighters, but by the promoters, managers and
seconds as well! To obtain this license you must first have an amateur boxing or
kick-boxing license in order to become a professional. Now this is no easy task since
there is no amateur kick-boxing currently allowed in Ontario! So you must go out of
province to gain your experience!
An Ontario fighter must also undergo the necessary medicals in order to be able to
fight in Ontario. An EEG, ECG,
HIV, full eye exam, and a Cat Scan every two years is among the tests
required by our government. Only if you pass all the above can you
receive a license. If you are knocked out while in a match, all these tests must immediately be
redone. All fighters outside the province will need a valid boxing
license, blood test (HIV and Hepatitis Band C), and an EEG.
So lets say all goes well and you get your license, now what? You have to go out and
find a promoter, someone who will allow you to fight on his/her card. You can go about this
search by yourself, or you can get a manager to assist you. Not to mention
you must train hard, be dedicated, motivated and have good Kick-Boxing
skills!
